I had the pleasure to interview the super nice and talented Ana Ramirez, one of the animators from the new Disney Pixar movie COCO.
We talked about how she started drawing and how she thinks Disney did portraying such an ethnic holiday from her culture and everything in between. It was a lovely conversation that made me love the film that much more. Continue reading
With Disney•Pixar’s COCO opening in theatres this Thanksgiving (November 22nd), I wanted to send around a brand share with you guys the new trailer for the film as well as a recipe for delicious pan de muerto and chocolate.

Everyone has a 9/11 Story. I was actually at the USA Consulate in Costa Rica, and stood in shock along with everyone in the building, it was incredibly sad and it’s certainly a day no one will ever forget.
We would like to introduce you to an awe-inspiring film starring Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg titled 9/11, based on the original play, The Elevator, that centers on the events of September 11, 2001.
No matter who you are or where you were, that moment and the aftermath is indelibly etched in everyone’s mind.
The film 9/11 is based on a true story and chronicles the lives of five average, everyday people who find themselves trapped in an elevator during the events of 9/11 in the World Trade Center.
I’d love to hear how you were impacted by the event and where you were. Is so important to never forget, and sharing people’s stories of love, courage, perseverance and even heartbreak, helps everyone remember that together we’re strong.
Visit the official website for more information about this film.
9/11 opens in theaters on September 8 and features an all star cast including Luis Guzman (The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Wood Harris (Justified), Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge (BBC), Welcome to New York), Olga Fonda (The Vampire Diaries) and Bruce Davison (X-Men).
In the World Trade Center, a billionaire sits in his attorney’s office awaiting a divorce hearing against his wife. In a west side apartment, a bike messenger kisses his 5-year old daughter and sings her “Happy Birthday” before leaving for work. A maintenance man gets dispatched to help a tenant with his lock. In an upper east side apartment, a young model musters the courage to break up with her sugar daddy. As random as random can be, these individuals step into a crowded World Trade Center elevator.
Wrapped up in their own world, they all ride silently hearing only the sound of the elevator giving notice of each floor. When the elevator stops on the 34th floor, it empties leaving only these five behind. Moments later … their world changes as the collision of a jet into the North Tower incapacitates the elevator.
With no understanding of what has happened and is happening around them, these fives are forced to band together and fight against all odds to escape from the impending horrific collapse. During these critical minutes, a story of courage, faith, and the will to live unfolds.

Have you heard about Hygge? Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word to describe a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. For me those are cooler weather, warm cinnamony drinks, fluffy blankets and freshly baked cookies. Nothing is better and more comforting to me than Fall. Maybe it’s a Texas thing, when you live through 100+ degree weather you embrace cooler seasons and don’t let go. So how to I hygge? I combine one or more of the above with the epitome of comfort: watching movies on the couch. So without further ado here’s my list of movies to get into full Hygge bliss, in no particular order and the sweetest part is that they’re all available on Netflix DVD.
Good will hunting: When professors at MIT discover that an aimless young janitor working at the university is also a mathematical genius, a therapist helps the young man confront the demons that are holding him back.
Benjamin Button: A man who was born old and wrinkled but grows younger as the years go by — with a screenplay adapted from a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Legends of the Fall: Yes, two Brad Pitt movies in one list, don’t judge me! The Ludlow clan — father William and brothers Alfred, Tristan and Samuel — splinters when Sam goes off to fight in World War I against his father’s wishes. To protect Sam, his siblings follow suit, but tragedy ensues when their efforts fall short.
Stepmom: “Ain’t no mountain high enough… ” This is one of those ugly cry movies so make sure you have tissues handy. Divorcée Jackie Harrison opposes the presence of her ex-husband’s new girlfriend — career-woman Isabel Kelly — in the lives of her two children. But the chasm between the two women disappears when Jackie is diagnosed with cancer.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone: I added the first one just in case you have been living under a rock and need to start watching them in other. But any Harry Potter movies will do. On his 11th birthday, orphaned Harry Potter learns he’s a powerful wizard — with a place waiting for him at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As he learns to harness his newfound powers, he uncovers the truth about his parents’ deaths.
American Beauty: Suburban fall, windy days with plastic bags dancing around. I love this Kevin Spacey film. While struggling to endure his tightly wound wife, an unfulfilling job and a sullen teenage daughter, suburbanite Lester Burnham falls deep into a midlife crisis and becomes infatuated with one of his daughter’s friends.
Practical Magic: I love magical movies and I think this one is right on that sweet spot where it’s not really scary enough for Halloween but just perfect for fall. Sisters Sally and Gillian Owens are modern-day witches whose love lives are complicated by an unusual curse: Men who fall in love with them meet untimely ends. But against the advice of their eccentric aunts, the sisters continue to seek romance.
You’ve got mail: In this valentine to modern romance, book superstore magnate Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) and independent book shop owner Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) fall in love in the anonymity of the Internet — both blissfully unaware that he’s trying to put her out of business. Director Nora Ephron’s Golden Globe-nominated romantic comedy puts romance on the ropes — and forces two people to make tough decisions about life, love and livelihood.
Edward Scissorhands: Dark, spooky and with Johnny Deep, do I need to say more? An inventor dies before developing hands for his creation, a boy named Edward who instead has scissors at the end of each arm. Edward lives a monastic existence until an Avon lady adopts him and takes him to live in the pastel paradise of suburbia.
Hope you guys enjoy the list! If I didn’t mention your favorite please let me know on the comments below. Make sure you check out these and all the amazing titles available on Netflix DVD
Following the global phenomenon of Force Friday in 2015, Disney and Lucasfilm today announced Find the Force, a global augmented reality (AR) event rolling out on Force Friday II (September 1) to commemorate the worldwide launch of new products inspired by STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THOR: RAGNAROK opens in theaters everywhere November 3rd!
By now you guys know I adore Disney, so when I got to attend the screening of Moana this week before it opened in theaters I was thrilled! If figured this time around I should switch up my review a bit so here are my favorite things about Moana and I’m pretty sure you’ll love them too.
- Best animal sidekick ever!
Not only does Moana have a pet piggy Pua but also some incredibly challenged chicken Hei Hei who is definitely not all there. My kids were laughing so hard at all the silly things and it was pretty cool how it was included in so many parts of the movie. Now I want a chicken…and a piggy
- Adjusting body image
This is probably the first thing I noticed and loved. Moana is a fierce 16 yr old girl and for the first time in Disney history; she looks like a 16 yr old. Just as a quick refresher… she’s the same age as Ariel, Mulan and Aurora. I can’t tell you enough how I amazing it is to see a realistic looking girl, don’t get me wrong my favorite princess ever is Ariel, but honey that waist couldn’t be any farther from reality!
Moana is showing little girls what it looks like to be 16, no tiny waists, no huge boobs, which is so reassuring and quite honestly necessary in this times where little girls and young women are told they have to look a certain way to be beautiful. And as a curly haired woman and mother of a curly haired little girls is so wonderful to see luscious dark black curly hair and a big nose. I ADORE it!
- Amazing cultural experience
Perhaps I was a bit sentimental or maybe I’m just a big baby but the inclusion of another language, native dances and costumes gave me a knot in my throat. THIS.IS.EVERYTHING. I want my children to grow up learning about different cultures and learning other languages so this is such a refreshing change from your usual animated movies and Moana is this an so much more, to see the Polynesian culture come through so beautifully makes me want to learn more! Also the folk stories about their ancestors (mostly Maui) and the way so many things were created are great.
- Be courageous and follow your destiny
What a huge change! Moana is to put it quite bluntly a badass! She knows exactly what needs to be done and she goes above and beyond to fulfill her destiny. She learns how to sail, fights monsters and saves not only her island but the world. All while reminding us to take care of mother earth because she loves us. What better message could we convey to kiddos?
MOANA arrives in theaters everywhere on November 23rd! In the mid time check out the trailer here:
